Stingray City

A Stop on Your Private Charter

Description

Stingray City is the stop almost everyone comes to Grand Cayman for. It’s a shallow sandbar in the calm North Sound where friendly southern stingrays glide right up to you in waist-deep, clear water. Your captain shows you how to stand, hold, and feed them safely, so even first-timers and kids are comfortable within minutes.

On a private charter you get there on your own schedule and skip the crowds from the big group boats and cruise ships. Right next to the sandbar there’s a reef where you can snorkel over coral and tropical fish, so most guests do both in one stop.

Stingray City Questions, Answered

Everything guests ask us before they meet the rays.

Yes. The water at the sandbar is calm and only waist-deep, and the southern stingrays are wild but used to people. Your local captain shows you how to stand, move, and feed them safely before you get in, so serious incidents are very rare.

Very. The shallow, calm water makes it one of the best family activities on the island, and we have life vests for children and non-swimmers. On a private charter your kids can take their time and go at their own pace, with no crowd around them.

It’s extremely unlikely. Stingrays only use their barb to defend themselves if they’re stepped on or handled roughly. Shuffle your feet, stay calm, and follow your captain’s guidance and they’ll simply glide around you looking for a snack.

Yes. Your captain provides squid to feed them and shows you how to hold your hand so they glide over your palm. You can gently touch them while they’re in the water, just never lift one out.

No. The sandbar is only about waist-deep, so most adults can simply stand. We provide life vests for anyone who wants one, so non-swimmers and kids are comfortable too.

Mornings are usually best. The water is calmest and you beat the cruise-ship crowds. Because we run private charters, we time your trip around the tides, weather, and crowds for the best possible conditions that day.

Only by boat. It’s a sandbar out in the North Sound. We depart from Camana Bay and it’s a short, scenic ride out to the sandbar.
