Grand Cayman in July: Why Summer is the Best Time for a Private Charter

People always ask me, “Is summer a good time to come to Grand Cayman?” And honestly, I love that question, because the answer surprises them every time.

Yes. Summer is one of my favorite times to be on the water here.

Most visitors picture the Caribbean as a winter destination, but if you’ve ever been out on the water in June or July, you know there’s something special about it. The trade winds that kick up chop in the cooler months settle down, and the water gets glassy. The ride out to Stingray City is smooth, the ocean just sits there still and clear, and everything about the day feels a little more relaxed.

Visibility is another thing that catches people off guard. I’ve been running charters here for years, and some of the best underwater conditions I’ve seen have been on summer mornings. The water warms up, clears out, and when you’re snorkeling over the reef you can see down 40 or 50 feet without even trying. Guests who’ve snorkeled other places are usually shocked.

Summer also tends to be a quieter time on the water overall. Cruise traffic is lighter than in the busy winter months, so Stingray City has more breathing room and the day feels more like your own.

If you’re flexible on timing and wondering whether to push your trip to summer, I’d tell you not to hesitate. Come in June, come in July, and spend your mornings on the water. You won’t regret it.
